The Maintenance Mechanic - HVAC is located in Meaford at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and typically reports directly to the Facilities Manager. Their primary focus is HVAC under the direction of the Facilities Manager.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Start-up and/or shut down of building equipment and machinery
  • Water treatment duties for boilers, engines, chillers, etc.
  • Filter changing (all applicable types)
  • Machinery belt inspection and replacement
  • Performance of minor repairs such as replacing washers, faucets, sinks, clearing toilets and drains, cleaning grease traps and sumps, re-packing valves, replacing pumps and motors and resetting breakers
  • Pump tear down and minor repairs including petroleum pumps
  • Alignment of pumps and couplings
  • Fan and air handling unit maintenance and alignment
  • Compressor maintenance including filters and dryers
  • Maintenance of metal and plastic pipe systems
  • Maintenance of pneumatic equipment
  • Electrical trouble shooting and minor repairs
  • Maintenance and minor repairs of wiring devices and conduit
  • All general mechanical maintenance duties
  • Maintain gas appliances
  • Standby duty as required
  • Operation and maintenance of chillers, heat pumps, air conditioners, air handling units, cooling towers and power generation equipment
  • Operation and maintenance of diesel fire pumps and fire alarm systems
  • Performance of shift tours including machinery log readings
  • Air balancing
  • Maintenance of the Energy Management System
  • Operation, maintenance and minor repairs of programmable logic controllers
  • Maintain equipment including primary, and control wiring, (e.g.: freezer walk in)
  • Monitor and maintain E.M.C.S
  • Maintenance of telephone installations, (conduit)
  • Minor repairs to main water lines
  • Assisting in the periodic testing of fire alarms and other life safety systems

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Degree or Diploma in:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • HVAC Systems

The following certifications/designations are considered a requirement:

  • Gas Fitter (G2)

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 years of HVAC experience in a commercial setting
  • Utilities/Construction/FMO/Service/Projects/Mechanical & Electrical

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Blue print reading
  • Organization and time management

Proficient user of:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system
  • DSI platform
  • Must have a valid G driver’s license
  • Must be have or be able to receive and maintain a Level II security clearance with the Government of Canada.
