The Facilities Maintenance Technician – General is located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut and typically reports directly to the Logistics Support Site (LSS) Manager. Their primary focus is perform preventative and corrective maintenance on fire systems (suppression and detection), HVAC, power generation, electrical distribution, water and sewage systems, building and shell construction under the direction of the LSS Manager.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for water distribution and sewage systems including transferring water by truck
  • Perform maintenance on bulk fuel systems including dipping tanks, pipeline inspection, pumps, valves and filters
  • Perform maintenance on hydronic heating systems including heat exchangers, waste heat recovery boilers, pumps, piping and unit heaters
  • Provide assistance to apprentices and other trades as required
  • Document and maintain facilities files as related to the work management system, work plans, field/incident reports, data analysis, etc.
  • Documenting and maintaining facilities files as related to the work management system, work plans, field/incident reports, and data analysis
  • Responding to emergency situations (unexpected failures)
  • Providing assistance to apprentices and other trades as required
  • Providing wildlife protection
  • Fuelling helicopters
  • Loading and unloading aircraft
  • Shovelling snow
  • Responding to site emergencies and environmental emergencies
  • General housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment by taking proactive and corrective measures
  • Other duties assigned by the Manager

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed journeyperson; Interprovincial Trade Certification in a Facilities system related trade

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years related experience (diagnostic and repairs), minimum, in a commercial or industrial setting

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be willing and able to travel
  • Due to many mandatory vaccination requirements at client projects / facilities, in order to provide substantial employment by ensuring compliance with our client’s mandates, the successful candidate may be required to validate full vaccination prior to hire
  • Must be comfortable working in and flying to remote Arctic locations via helicopter and/or smaller fixed wing aircraft
  • Interpreting drawings, diagrams and specifications on a variety of mechanical equipment, including manufacturer’s manuals and parts books
  • Must possess Reliability Clearance or be eligible to obtain one
  • Must possess Standard First Aid trained with CPR Level A, or willing to obtain Standard First Aid certification and hold a valid certificate
  • Possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or willing to obtain and hold a current license
  • Possess a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license, or provincial/territorial equivalent
  • Must possess serviceable steel toe safety boots that meet standards for workplace safety
  • Must be familiar with safety regulations and practices, including working at heights
  • Good written and verbal skills (English)
  • Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project and Outlook)
