The Radio Operator position is located in Fort Mackay. Their primary focus is the overall aviation support at the Firebag Aerodrome including emergency response, air/ground communications and runway condition reports in respect to the aerodrome and aviation weather observation/briefing. This position is the first point of contact for the Aerodrome and supports all information related to aircraft departures and landings. This is a full time permanent position with varying rotation options.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Emergency communications and other related activities.
- Recording statistics re number of aircraft, passengers, baggage and de-icing information
- Monitor/operate air-ground frequencies by giving the latest weather conditions, known air and ground traffic, Runway Surface Condition Reports and advise pilots of up-to-date weather information. Advising ramp staff of relayed information (De-icing needs, etc.).
- Keeping appropriate radio logs, aircraft movement logs and strips, radio communications and file appropriately at month-end.
- Assist pilots with flight planning by advising Edmonton Centre of changes to flight plan/itinerary, closing flight plans, etc.
- Manage all aspects of its business with regards to prevention of pollution and minimize or eliminate adverse environmental and health impacts. This will be achieved by taking into consideration and complying with; federal, provincial and municipal regulations and guidelines, (whichever is the more stringent) in conjunction with customer, employee and public requirements and concerns.
- Recording statistics re number of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and de-icing information
- Maintain a close and continuous weather watch.
- Administer PPR form (Prior Permission Request), update the Flight Schedule as required and distribute as required.
- Liaise with AXYS tech to ensure AWOS is delivering correct data.
- Other duties as required.
- Responsible for being aware of any QAHSE programs and certifications to which the organization subscribes and following any policies or procedures that are in place. They are responsible for challenging procedures and /or tabling suggestions for improvement where the see actual or perceived deficiencies to their manager/supervisor/QAHSE Manager. Their responsibilities may include but not be limited to, development of departmental procedures, continuous improvement, employee training and monitoring, forming part of the QAHSE management committee and being part of a Corrective Action investigation and implementation team.
- Must be willing and able to travel.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of a certified Aviation Radio Operator and Weather Observers Program.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1-5 years of experience in the Aviation industry

- Willing and able to travel; this position is a rotation; camp accommodations are provided; flights are provided from Calgary or Edmonton to the Firebag Airport
- Security clearance requirements – Criminal Record Check
- Radio License (aeronautical)

- Drivers Abstract
- Common Safety Orientation – Energy Safety Canada would be an asset
